EMDR

EMDR Therapy in Pacific Palisades, CA

When you suffer from emotional or anxious distress, you may feel as though your life will never be normal. Despite trying multiple treatments and medications, your negative emotions, thoughts, and memories continue to impair your quality of life.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy has helped many of my clients break free from destructive patterns and significantly lessens the sadness, stress, and anxiety that too frequently burdens their lives.

EMDR, a modality created by Francine Shapiro, works to reduce or eliminate the effects of emotional distress (including trauma).  Treatment involves using the appropriate protocol while providing bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or audio) to the client as they focus on past, present, and future aspects of disturbing memories.

EMDR provides clinicians with different protocols and procedures that contribute to focused and efficient treatment outcomes. An isolated event such as a rape or a car accident can often be effectively processed in up to 10 sessions or less. Sadness or anxiety that stems from deep-rooted issues that have built up over the years may take longer to process. More complex diagnoses, including personality and dissociative disorders, will take longer to process as well.

Please refer to http://www.emdr.org for any questions and/or concerns about EMDR.
